The Grampians are only about 3 hours from Melbourne, but it feels like a different world from the city. Thereโs many hikes, waterfalls like Mackenzie Falls, and youโll see most Aussie wildlife here. If you can, stay overnight to see everything. Itโs basically Victoriaโs version of the Blue Mountains.
AFL Grand Final Day is a public holiday in Victoria, and last year I spent it at the Abbotsford Convent. Itโs a former nunnery thatโs now home to gardens, a little farm, a cafรฉ, bakery, and a great restaurant (Camโs Kiosk). One of the venues hosts a block party where the game is played in the courtyard, along with food and beer stalls - it was such a nice vibe. I think it will become my new Grand Final Day tradition.
While working remotely in the city, I finally stopped by a small Korean restaurant Iโd been meaning to try. I ended up chatting with the owner, whoโs a Korean expat. We talked about cooking, bodybuilding, and the challenges of sourcing ingredients here. I was so impressed with what heโs built that I offered my creative services for free. Later, I started ordering bulk meals from him and was surprised to see he delivers them himself. Honestly, itโs some of the best quick Korean food Iโve had in Melbourne - if youโre in the city, show this place some love.
The weather in melbourne has been pretty rough lately, so Iโve been spending more time at home cooking. I think Iโve gotten better over the years, but honestly, sometimes I canโt even tell how things taste anymore - probably from being around the food too long and getting sensory fatigue. Do you have a go-to dish from your culture thatโs perfect for cold weather? Iโd love to try making it. One of my favourites is Avgolemono
