Yesterday morning was absolutely beautiful. I took a walk across the recently harvested fields and it was so refreshing to feel the cool breeze across your face as you walk. I love living in a little village , to be able to wake up and see the countryside with the birds singing is a far cry from the madding crowd of city life. In the name of progress people are attracted to the concrete jungle of mega cities but I am just happy where I am , watching and blending in with nature that gives me contentment with life. I am just a nobody, happy to be so.

My grandson Louis aged 4, at the start of a new term at his new school. In England children go to school the year they turn 5 . The school year starts in September and ends in July. Louis was very excited at the thought of joining a new school and was very happy when he was collected by his parents at the end of the day. He said he had a great day playing with his friends. When asked what he wanted he said, “a purple Lamborghini “. Probably he saw the car at his school. When my elder son was little I used to drive him and his friend to tennis sessions and each time they spotted a sports car on the way they used to say ”wicked”! All boys like cars..

Last night I cooked a roast beef for 6. My son drove me to the butcher’s but they ran out of rib of beef so I had to go for silverside which is lean but supposedly not as tasty as rib of beef. Anyway I lay it on a bed of carrots and onions in the roasting dish with a generous seasoning of herbs, mustard, pepper and salt. Much to my surprise it turned out out to be the most perfect piece of roast that I have ever cooked and everyone tucked into it happily, finishing off with apple crumble. I even burned my fingers in the process of removing the roast from the oven , a quick cold wash under the tap helped to stop the formation of blisters!

I spent most of the weekend playing with my grandson Louis, aged 4. We went through all the board games including Game of Life, Monopoly and Snap. With Monopoly and Game of Life, Louis liked to impose his own rules and it’s a fine line between cheating and wanting to win! I guess he’ll soon find out the reality of life when he goes to school! I had a most enjoyable weekend trying to teach him that it’s just a game !

Last weekend I gave my younger son a helping hand while his wife was away at a wedding. Nick attended to Sebbie most of the time while I kept an eye on Louis who is 4.

Last weekend I was on cat sitting duties as my son and his girlfriend were away for the weekend. It’s very convenient that he can call on us to look after his cats as they live next door to us and tend to join us for meals every day! When I am cat sitting I tend to spend a few hours there in the morning, go back for my lunch, return for a couple of hours in the afternoon and again in the evening. His cats are house cats so they stay indoors most of the time and are only let out when he’s home. He has to keep an eye on them when he lets them out because they tend to disappear into the bushes. Once Chili disappeared and was crying in the fields as she had lost her way!Joe had to go hunting for her and he was getting frantic too. The same thing happened to Charlie. He’s the youngest and keeps crying to go outside. Sammie on the other hand will hide in the bushes but won’t go far.

I would like to tell you what I cooked last night: for a change I slow cooked some lamb for the best part of a day. You could call it a lamb hotpot although it’s my variation of it by adding onions, carrots, tomatoes and baby mushrooms . It was served with mashed potatoes. I have to say it was really delicious and my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. We have some leftover for lunch today. We finished off with fresh mangoes 🥭. We tend to have fresh fruits everyday. Mangoes are my favourite fruits. I can never get enough of them. I grew up with mangoes in Malaysia and I also ate them whenever I visited Thailand . They have a dish called mango sticky rice and it’s absolutely irresistible!

I managed to catch these views from 7:30 pm last night as I watched the sun setting over the course of an hour. I love watching the colours blend so harmoniously in the sky. Every sunset is a different view, which makes it so unique. There is harmony in nature, no bickering by humans. We can learn a lot from it. Forget the past, we are human and there is no peace till we can live with one another. We all make mistakes. In my lifetime I may not witness peace in the world but at least I can live by example. There is no place in my heart for bitterness and hatred because at the end of the day we all go the same way. Dust to dust, ashes to ashes..

The best of summer evenings when you can see the sun setting after 8 pm : I love taking a stroll after supper in our top garden to watch the views as every day is different. This is the joy of living in the countryside ! But soon summer will be over and it will be another year before we get to enjoy the long evenings before it gets dark.

A friend came over and made us the best homemade pizzas. They were truly amazing and much better than the restaurant! We just couldn’t stop eating as you can imagine. I liked the pepperoni best. It was fun watching it being made and seeing the dough rising in the oven. Of course it involves a lot of time preparing it even before rolling out the dough..

Out of the blue yesterday afternoon the Heavens opened and down came a torrential rain which turned into hailstones . Fortunately it lasted only for a little while and by evening the sky had cleared to give some soothing colours to end the day. Elsewhere in the world there has been horrendous floods which shows that whether it’s the result of climate change or whatever reason Nature remains predominant and humans must learn to live with it in harmony and peace.

After supper last night around 8 pm when it was still daylight I took a walk around our little village, across the open fields with barley crops catching the sunlight , gleaming golden all around. I love it in summer when the days are long and it doesn’t get dark till 10 at night. But this will pass all too soon when Autumn approaches.

Hidden among the shrubs the little buds began to grow and open to reveal beautiful pink and yellow roses. “ It’s our turn to shine”, they say as they proudly displayed their colours.

We shared a sushi meal last night and I must say it was a bit too much for us! I particularly liked the udon noodles, they were so delicious! It’s a nice change and we have it now and then , although not as often as I would like as my husband doesn’t like sushi so he only has the noodles.

I woke up this morning to the sound of raindrops making patterns on my window. I love the trickle of the rain as the droplets try to give my window a little wash.. I left the window a little ajar to allow the breeze to sweep into my room. I always like to sleep when it’s raining, it makes one feel really cosy.

This is my supper last night. I bought a large portion of “Southern Fried Chicken “ from the supermarket and cooked it in the oven for 35 minutes. It turned out very succulent and we had potatoes and salad with it. I could have prepared it from scratch but it’s easier to buy it ready prepared from the supermarket.

It’s a beautiful morning, the sun is out and it’s going to be a dry day . The window cleaner has arrived to wash the windows so they should be clean and clear for another month. This is my breakfast room , in fact we have our meals here , on a day to day I usually end up cooking for my husband, son and his girlfriend who live next door to us.

It was Open Day last weekend when some 5 gardens were open to the public to view their flowers in bloom. It was quite spectacular and we enjoyed wandering around the gardens looking at all the different plants.
