šµš Pinoys let me get your opinion. Iāve recently discovered some food combinations that I didnāt know existed, such as dinuguan with puto and champorado with daing/tuyo (bulad for my Bisaya peeps). But thereās so many kinds of tuyo. Which leads me to my question:Anong klaseng tuyo pinapares ninyo sa champorado?
šµš If youāve ever travelled across the Visayas region of the Philippines, you may have come across these two cities whose names should rhyme, but are in fact, pronounced differently from one another. They are Dalaguete, Cebu and Dumaguete in Negros Oriental province. [play audio for correct pronunciation] Although both citiesā names end in ā-gueteā, the difference in their pronunciations come from the respective origins from which their names derive. [first picture below explains these differences]From 2nd picture onwards:1. San Guillermo de Aquitania Church - Dalaguete2. Saint Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral belfry - Dumaguete3. View from Lake Danao, the smaller of the two lakes of Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park; a 48-minute drive from Dumaguete.4. View from OsmeƱa Peak. Its actual location is within the neighboring municipality of Badian; the trailhead can be reached from Dalaguete city proper within 20-30 minutes by habal-habal (motorized tricycle) ride.Side note: Cebu Pacific should hire me to do their magazine travel entries. Or DOT maybe you have a job opening?? š Someone, anyone? whatamangattado??
This is something Iāve been wanting to try for some time and I finally got to.This bread is a Filipino šµš merienda/meryenda (afternoon snack or light meal) called ākalihimā meaning āsecretā or ākeeper of secretsā. (Donāt ask me why itās called that. Iām not so sure myself) It is also known as āpan de reglaā meaning āmenstrual breadā or āperiod breadā, attributing to the bright red jam it contains. The filling is bread pudding made from pieces of stale bread, mixed with milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and red or pink food dye to give it its characteristic color. The one I tried is rather sweet and differs from others Iāve seen because this one is filled with more jam and the breading is thin and the bread is roughly the size of a Fig Newton but a bit longer. Most pan de regla I see in bakeries can fit in your hand like a burger and often only contain a thin layer of jam. Ingredients:-flour-sugar-milk-butter-salt-stale bread-sugar-vanilla
Hello Bisaya speakers! If you are from Davao maybe youāre very familiar with this phrase? Please help me remember.Itās used when youāre having a normal conversation or joking around with your friends and then someone will turn the topic into something deep and youāll tease him/her for that in a joking way. Whatās that phrase?
So today I saw my Indian Hindi neighbor with these ātattoosā. So I took the opportunity to ask her what they are and what they signify. Hereās what I learned:The terms āmehndiā and āhennaā are interchangeable and are used to refer to the body art as well as the plant. I will differentiate the two first.Mehndi or mehandi - A Sanskrit word. It refers to the body art and is called this way in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi and Bengali as well, amongst other various South Asian languages.Henna - Derived from the Arabic āal-įø„innÄā, refers to the plant as well as the body art. This body decoration is also called a āhenna tattooā in the West. How is it done? Mehndi or henna is a temporary skin decoration created using a paste made from the henna plant, Lawsonia inermis. The plant secretes red dye and its leaves are ground into powder which is then made into a paste and squeezed through a makeshift plastic tube, or applied using a brush or a stick. It can last a few days up to three weeks depending on the quality and type of paste. After about half an hour from application, the painted area will begin to crack. The painted area is then wrapped to lock in body heat, resulting in a more intense color of the design. The wrap is removed after a few hours, or left overnight before removing. Upon removal, the design will be pale to dark orange in color but with oxidation over the course of 24-72 hours, the color will darken into a brilliant reddish-brown. Significance in Hindi culture:According to my neighbor, this kind of design seen here is typically done for women and meant to signify a prosperous marriage. The womenās designs will look extravagant like this, and cover more surface area, whereas for the men, typically it will be more simplistic and minimal. Mehndi or mehandi is also applied the night before Hindi festivals such as Karva Chauth or Diwali.
There are times when things are not in your control and you have to let go. Tell yourself let go because youāve been here before and you know how it drags you down and you donāt want to be there feeling that way again. It sucks but just accept whatever is heading your way, even if you donāt know what the result will be. God makes a way for you but it might not be the right time. Donāt force it; let it come. He knows when itās your time in the sun. Surely you are not wiser, smarter than the All Knowing. Sometimes He gives you the storm because you need it. And if he doesnāt give you that which you seek itās because he has a better plan in store for you. Lord, uplift me. Take this fear and anxiety from my heart. If it is meant to be mine, give me patience to stick it through. Give me patience that you will calm my nerves. That I will not over-worry about those things I cannot control. Everything will be okay, Lord because you are by my side. I have nothing to fear for I walk with you. You show me the way and I will follow. I trust in you and the path you have carved for me, though I donāt know what awaits me. šā¤ļøš„š¤²
This is my second week volunteering here at QC Kabahagi Center for Children with Disabilities (Iām an OT grad.) Itās really challenging cuz I havenāt treated patients in 3 years. My advisers say no pressure because Iām not being graded like the other interns here but I feel so much pressure on myself to perform up to standard. Iām behind on paperwork since everything I had studied before in college is a blur: all the concepts and lessons I learned. Itās like I need to start all over from freshman year. But Iām still fighting ā I want to become a competent, confident physician. For privacy and legality reasons, I canāt post pics of my clients so Iāll show this instead: Hereās a pic of one of my patientās work. I had him do an obstacle course back and forth, getting 2 pieces each trip until he copied the pattern I set. He was so close š¤Pic 1: The pattern I setPic 2: His attempt
This is a poem I wrote almost 2 years ago. It has no title.- - -Morning draft is her hairI run my fingers through only to pretendIt was never clasped in the palm of my handShall we whisper in the wind, My Love?Kiss me and run hypothermia through my veinsTell me thereās timeIāll continue to flip this hourglass upside-downThe last grain of sand wonāt ever slip throughEven if you slip intoThe abyssWorry not for itās not an endless pitYouāre a fictional character in outer spaceIn a vacuum you wander aimlesslyCome now back down to earthShroud yourself in moonlight non-fictionGaze into a pond when itās pitch black at 2 in the morningAnd illuminate your self crystal clearLike the moon never existed
